Teeth brushing rules – don’t make these mistakes

Good oral hygiene includes following certain teeth brushing rules. But in our daily routine, we sometimes make a number of unconscious mistakes that have a negative effect on the health of our teeth and gums.

Commonly broken teeth brushing rules

You're not using the right toothbrush.

It's a common myth that you need a hard-bristled toothbrush to clean your teeth effectively. The truth is, scrubbing too hard with a coarser brush can damage tooth enamel and cause your teeth to wear down faster.

You use whitening toothpaste constantly.

Whitening toothpastes should be used under the supervision of a dentist to prevent possible damage to your teeth. When choosing a toothpaste, look for one that will protect your teeth and gums from cavities, gum disease and bad breath.

You are brushing too vigorously.

Fast, vigorous brushing with pressure damages the enamel. To prevent serious problems that result from its damage, use lighter and more careful movements. Plaque removal does not require a lot of pressure, but proper technique. The movements when brushing your teeth are vertical, not horizontal. Place the brush at an angle to the gums and move it in a top-down direction. Try to reach the inner parts of the teeth.

Brushing your teeth once a day or too often

It is optimal to brush your teeth twice a day. Once is not enough because it creates conditions for bacterial overgrowth in the oral cavity.

You floss after brushing.

The rule of thumb is to floss before brushing your teeth. This helps to loosen food particles stuck between your teeth. Then, when you rinse, they are easier to remove.

Make brushing your teeth a conscious routine. Think about why you do it! The process provides you with better health and self-care and the satisfaction of doing something good for yourself.

To conclude the article, we advise you: smile more and of course visit your trusted dentist every 6 months for preventive examinations.
